Korea 2023 Day 3 & 4 - Finale
Nov 15, 2023 5 min read
The final episode of my short K-Drama.
After finishing our tourist activities of the day…
Jongno-gu
Walking to the high street for some snacks.
Seoul Museum of Craft Art
Insa-dong
Neat, an air quality sensor. Today’s report:
UV Levels: Low
Ultrafine Dust: 36-75 ΞΌg/mΒ³ π
Oh hey, it’s another branch of our hotel in the back.
Someone gave me this in the street. This makes God look like a dictator.
Sinyet chatjip (Shin Tea House)
Tucked away in an alleyway, hidden from all the noise and bustle.
What wasn’t fast was the service lol, it took half an hour for our tea to arrive. It was just the one guy running the whole shop and he disappeared into the kitchen for so long that you could see all the other customers getting anxious and looking around to see if they were the only one left out.
I got a green plum tea which was nice and sweet. My mum and sister got ginger tea, my dad got a coffee. The rice cakes just tasted like unflavoured mochi. It was fine, wasn’t really worth the wait time or cost.
Is that Korean Michael Reeves? Matching couple outfits seem pretty common here in Korea/HK.
Does anyone even use LINE here? Kakao is where it’s at.
It’s one of those travel beggars.

We’ve already finished everything my sister had planned for this trip so she had to google for more tourist ideas when we were in the tea shop.
We took another Uber (not the cube car in the photo) but the subway probably would have been better since it was kinda far from here. Traffic was heavy and the car ride took over an hour(?!). Didn’t even realise until I checked the photos’ timestamps because we all fell asleep. There was just something comfy about that car, I couldn’t keep my eyes open.
Songpa-gu
Lotte World Mall
Wow, tall. Sure got dark real quick during that uber ride.
The Lotte World Tower, the 6th tallest skyscraper in the world. It has apartments, offices, shops and restaurants. You could live and work there and never need to leave the building. It has the obligatory observation deck too but we didn’t go inside.
We went into the mall instead. Then we left and went into one of the other malls next door because my sister said she liked the shops in that one better.
Everything in the area is built and run by the Lotte company, one of the mega conglomerates that rule South Korea. The aquarium and cinema here are also apparently some of the largest in Asia.
South Korea was going through a phase licensing and slapping foreign logos on everything. I saw clothing with the logos of a bunch of American TV channels, sports leagues, Kodak, and even defunct airlines.
Anyway I bought a Nat Geo coat for myself and it’s pretty nice π
My sister seemed to have picked the more high-end mall because there was barely anyone here.
Entering back into the mainstream mall.
You had to give them your details to enter but they could tell I wasn’t Korean and the staff just filled in the form for me.
Clean as you walk around the house.
Someone’s going to try to fuck this thing.
We forgot to check out the outside park before leaving. We took the subway this time.
Myeong-dong
Wangbijip - Korean BBQ
My sister had run out of places to eat at so BBQ one more time! π
Also yo that grilled cheese was really good. The attendant kept cutting up the pieces but it would immediately melt together again π€€
Myeong-dong Night Market
Time for some souvenir shopping before ending the night.
Taiyaki sandwich but without the tai.
This cake has been #sponsored by…
Tonight’s konbini snacks:
Pollack flavoured tortilla chips: π
Crunky DOUBLE CRUNCH bar: π
Pepero with Buttercup on it: It was just a normal Pepero π
Muscat grape jelly: π
Muscat grape aloe drink: π
Kimchi fried rice and spam onigiri π
CORN ice cream, made with real bits of corn π½
It tasted like a corn flavoured ice cream π€·ββοΈ
Got some nuts for friends. They were good, wish I bought some for myself.
Seoul seems pretty compact compared to like Tokyo or London.
Last day. We have just enough time to eat some breakfast before we head to the airport.
The weather’s been good this trip other than some rain on the final morning.
Myeongdong Kyoja Restaurant
It was busy but the queue was efficiently sorted by a staff barking orders at people to stand here, go to x floor etc. and people only have a set time to eat before they have to leave.
Mandu, pork dumplings π And free kimchi.
Kalguksu, soft noodles in chicken broth π
I was googling the restaurant and apparently this place has a Michelin star? I mean, it was pretty good but nothing special nor was the service friendly. Cheap, though.
Last look at the money before we leave.
Incheon International Airport
I was the only one who got a star drawn on their boarding pass. The counter girl was totally into me π
Neat, live queue times at the various gates. They wouldn’t have needed this if security wasn’t so slow though.
Sir, your flight is boarding…
Okay okay, last round
I don’t play any of their games but that’s a thing.
We didn’t have time for any proper meals since the queues seemed pretty long so I just got this mini doggo from Paris Baguette, the Pret of Korea.
They’re in London too now and they gave my friend food poisoning.
Turns out there were tons of shops we could have eaten at right next to our gate if we had headed straight there instead of waiting till the boarding time. I could have tried my first Dunkin’ Donuts…
